Weekly Reflection Summary
Day 22 - 20 November, 2023
The day began with morning main gate line duty. I substituted in several classes throughout the day:
- 2nd hour: Substituted for Sosamma teacher (Basic Science) in 6Q.
- 3rd hour: Substituted in 8M.
- 4th hour: Substituted in 9P.
- 5th hour: Substituted in 9A for Lekshmi Raj (English - Prince Sir).
- 7th hour: Substituted in 9R.
Day 23 - 21 November, 2023
Started with morning main gate line duty.
In the 3rd hour, I taught Physics in 8Q on "Reflection of Light in Spherical Mirrors," focusing on "Image Formed by Spherical Mirrors." I used plane mirrors, convex and concave mirrors, a laser torch, a protractor, PHET simulation “Geometric Optics,” and presentation aids. Students were able to distinguish the properties of images formed by spherical mirrors for different object positions.
In the 4th hour, I conducted a Chemistry class in 9C1 on "Acids, Bases & Salts," covering "Alkalies." I used blackboard, presentation, Mg metal, a holder, spirit lamp, water beaker, and litmus paper. With guidance from Preetha teacher, students understood the concept of alkalies effectively.
In the 7th hour, I taught Physics in 9Q on "Work, Energy & Power," focusing on "Power." I used masses, blackboard, videos, and presentation aids. Students gained a clear understanding of power and its applications.
Day 24 - 22 November, 2023
Started with morning main gate line duty.
I substituted in the following classes:
- 3rd hour: In 6Q for Work Experience.
- 4th hour: In 8G for Biology (Biju Philips Sir).
- 6th hour: Taught a new Physics class in 8O on "Reflection of Light in Spherical Mirrors," focusing on "Spherical Mirrors." I used plane mirrors, convex and concave mirrors, a laser torch, a protractor, meter scale, markers, and PHET simulation “Geometric Optics.” Students received a clear introduction to optics.
The day concluded with evening line duty.
Day 25 - 24 November, 2023
Started with morning main gate line duty.
In the 1st hour, I taught Physics in 8Q on "Reflection of Light in Spherical Mirrors," focusing on "Ray Diagrams of Spherical Mirrors." I used convex and concave mirrors, a laser torch, blackboard, PHET simulation “Geometric Optics,” and presentation aids. Students were able to create ray diagrams for spherical mirrors.
In the 4th period, I conducted a Chemistry class in 9C1 on "Acids, Bases & Salts," covering "Neutralization Reactions" and "Neutralization & Salts." I used blackboard, presentation, dil. HCl, dil. NaOH, burette, pipette, holder, phenolphthalein, beaker, and conical flask. Students understood the concept of neutralization reactions and the products formed.
I observed Priyanka P S's class in the 5th hour (Physical Science) with Neena teacher also observing.
Engaged in sociometry activities in the evening.
Overall Reflection:
This week involved a blend of direct teaching, substitutions, and observations. Key activities included:
- Effective use of material and visual aids in teaching complex topics like optics and chemical reactions.
- Engaging students through practical demonstrations and interactive sessions.
- Receiving valuable feedback from peers and mentors, which contributed to enhancing teaching methods.
Substitution duties allowed me to experience a variety of subjects and classroom environments, enriching my teaching practice and providing insights into different teaching styles and classroom management strategies.
