Weekly Reflection Summary
Day 12 - 06 November, 2023
The day began with morning main gate line duty. There were no allotted class hours. Instead, I conducted a substitution class for the 3rd hour in 9H, where I organized a visit to the school’s museum setup in the auditorium. I also assisted during the 7th period in 9Q for PT hour on the school grounds.
Day 13 - 07 November, 2023
Started the day with main gate line duty. In the 3rd hour, I taught Physics in 8Q on "Magnetism," specifically "Magnetic Field & Flux Density." I demonstrated properties of magnetic field lines using bar magnets, iron filings, and the blackboard. Maya teacher (Philosophy, MTTC) observed my class and provided encouraging feedback. The students seemed to gain a solid understanding of magnetic fields and lines of force.
In the 4th period, I conducted a Chemistry class in 9C1 on "Acids, Bases & Salts," focusing on "Reaction of Acids with Metals." I used the blackboard, ICT-oriented activities, and material aids like Mg metal, dilute HCl, test tubes, and a spirit lamp. Preetha teacher observed and guided me in performing demonstrations. Students appeared to understand the reactions of acids with reactive metals.
During the 7th hour, I taught Physics in 9Q on "Work, Energy & Power," focusing on "Positive, Negative & Zero Work." I used a box, ball, ICT-oriented activities, and the blackboard. Only 32 students attended, but they seemed to grasp how to differentiate various work situations.
Day 14 - 08 November, 2023
Started with morning main gate line duty. I conducted substitutions in 5D for the 1st period and 9P for the 6th period. I covered topics on "Fundamental Quantities & Their Fundamental Units" and "How to Derive a Unit" in both classes. Additionally, I substituted in 9V during the 7th period on similar topics.
Day 15 - 09 November, 2023
The day began with morning main gate line duty. In the 2nd period, I taught Physics in 9Q with 42 students on "Work, Energy & Power," focusing on "Energy" and "Kinetic Energy." I used presentations, the blackboard, and the “Energy Skate Park” PHET simulation. The lesson helped students develop both conceptual and factual knowledge about energy and kinetic energy.
In the 3rd and 4th hours, I substituted for combined classes in 7P and 7O for Hindi (Manu Sunny Mathew sir) and Malayalam (Sunil R sir). I also substituted in 9Y for the 6th period (Physics - Susan tr) for IT Practical Exam and in 9T during the 7th hour (IT Theory - Marshly tr). Deepthi teacher (Mathematics optional) visited for observation.
Day 16 - 10 November, 2023
Started the day with morning main gate line duty. In the 1st period, I taught Physics in 8Q on "Magnetism," focusing on "Magnetic Induction." I used the blackboard, bar magnet, and steel pins. The class provided students with a clear understanding of magnetic induction.
In the 4th period, I revised the Chemistry chapter on the "Periodic Table" in 9C1, focusing on "Metalloids." We worked through textbook exercises, and I provided additional notes. I used the blackboard, phone, and activity cards. Neena teacher observed and Preetha teacher gave positive feedback. I also substituted in 7P for Moral Science (Lilly Florence tr) and for Reading, and in 9S for English (Beena tr) during the 7th hour.
Overall Reflection: This week included a range of teaching, substitution, and administrative tasks. From hands-on demonstrations in Physics to practical Chemistry experiments and administrative duties, the week was diverse. The positive feedback from observers and the engagement of students in various activities contributed to a deeper understanding of the subjects taught. Handling substitutions and administrative tasks also provided a broader perspective on school operations and responsibilities.
