Week 1 - teaching practice - St Mary's HSS, Pattom

Weekly Reflection Summary

Day 1 - 03 October, 2023

The day began with a warm reception from the HM, Rani teacher, and Principal, Fr. Nelson. My teaching practice started with a Physics class for 8Q (boys) during the 3rd period, where I was introduced by Prince Sir. Later, I conducted a Chemistry class for 9C1 (girls) during the 4th period, with Preetha teacher observing. I introduced the chapter on the periodic table, focusing on the history up to Newlands' law of octaves. I utilized presentations and the blackboard, aiming to help students appreciate the historical efforts in developing the periodic table.

In the 7th period, I taught Physics to 9Q (boys) about "Gravitation" and the "Universal Law of Gravitation." Prince Sir observed my class again. I employed ICT video resources, simulations, and the blackboard to facilitate understanding. The day concluded with line duty after handling the noon meal duty.

Day 2 - 05 October, 2023

I conducted a Physics class for 9Q (boys) during the 2nd period. The focus was on the "Force of gravity & Universal law of gravitation," including numerical problems. I used the “Gravity force lab” PHET simulation, an ICT-oriented quiz, and the blackboard. I provided individual attention to students working on problems, which helped in giving them a solid understanding of the Universal law of gravitation and its applications. After the noon meal duty, the day ended with line duty.

Day 3 - 06 October, 2023

I started with a Physics class in 8Q, introducing the chapter on "Magnetism" with a focus on "Natural & artificial magnets." I used a presentation, the blackboard, and disc magnets as material aids, which seemed to help students understand the types of magnets clearly.

In the 4th period, I conducted a Chemistry class for 9C1 on "Moseley's modern periodic table." I utilized the Ubuntu application "KALZIUM," the blackboard, and activity sheets to aid instruction. Preetha teacher observed my class, and I felt the modern periodic table was effectively introduced. The day included a substitution class with Sruthy (Natural Science) for 7M in the 6th period and ended with line duty.

Overall Reflection: This week provided a varied experience with opportunities to implement different teaching aids and strategies. From introducing fundamental concepts in Physics and Chemistry to utilizing ICT resources and engaging activities, I aimed to enhance student understanding and interaction. The consistent observation and feedback from mentors contributed to refining my teaching methods. The daily duties and line duties added to the overall experience, providing a comprehensive view of the school environment and responsibilities.

Day 3 - Teaching practice (06 October, 2023)

Physics class in 1st period in 8Q. Introduced chapter : "Magnetism", topic: "Natural & artificial magnets". I used the presentation &  Blackboard as A-V aids & and two disc magnets as material aids. It feels like, students got a clear idea about types of magnets.

Chemistry class at 4th period in 9C1, & took the concept "History of periodic table" ::"Moseley's modern periodic table".  Ubuntu application "KALZIUM" & Blackboard were used as A-V aid & activity sheets as material aid. My Preetha teacher observed the class. It feels like, I was able to introduce the modern periodic table effectively.

Next, with Sruthy (Natural Science) got a substitution class for 6th period in 7M.

The day ended with line duty…

Day 2 - Teaching practice (05 October, 2023)

Physics class at 2nd period in 9Q (Room: 105, boys). A total of 43 students were in the class. Chapter :  "Gravitation", Concept: "Force of gravity & Universal law of gravitation" & it's numericals. Used “Gravity force lab” PHET simulation, ICT oriented quiz activity, & blackboard as A-V aids. Individual attention was given to students to work out problems on their own. Feels like, I was able to give students a general idea about the Universal law of gravitation & its application.

Noon meal duty...

Evening line duty.

Day 1 - Teaching practice (03 October, 2023)

We, teacher trainees, were given a warm welcome by our HM Rani teacher & our Principal Fr. Nelson.

Physics class at 3rd period in 8Q (Room 500a, boys), my Prince Sir (Physics, St. Mary's, Pattom) introduced me to the class.

Chemistry class at 4th period in 9C1 (girls), Introduced myself to the class & my Preetha teacher (Chemistry, St. Mary's, Pattom) observed the class. Introduced the chapter "Periodic table". Topic : "history of periodic table upto Newlands - law of octaves". Used presentation & blackboard as A-V aids. Feels like, I was able to make students recognise the intense efforts of different scientists in building periodic table.

Duty of noon meal.

Physics class at 7th period at 9Q (Room number: 105, boys). Introduced myself to the class. My Prince sir observed my class. Introduced the chapter "Gravitation", The topic : "Universal law of gravitation". Discussed many fictions in the class. I used ICT video resources, simulations & blackboard as A-V aids. Feels like, I was able to make students understand the gravity effectively.

The day successfully ended with evening line duty.
